MANO YOHKO

She is the 16 year old 108th generation devil hunter. Yohko is a pretty and athletic girl who is constantly thinking of having a boyfriend. So far, her luck with boys has been less than successful as they have all turned out to be either possessed by demons, sacrificed for evil, or were illusions to begin with. Yohko transforms into her red silk dress clad devil hunter self by using a Yoma ring given to her by her grandmother. Worn on her left hand, this ring is the source of Yohko's power, has healing properties, and has the power to control time. The ring itself can also help Yohko generate a power blast to use against her enemies. Yohko's unique 'braided hoops' hairstyle is kept up by hair ornaments made from a magic stone called Shimi-Seki which focuses and increases her inner powers. These hair clips can also alert Yohko of incoming danger. Together with the ring, Yohko can project a sort of psi-web at a demon to keep it from moving. Yohko's main weapon, is her Soulsword which she calls to her almost everytime she transforms. This is a two-piece sword where the long blade can be detached from the handle. The handle has its own curved blade which can be used for times when Yohko needs to "hack and slash". If seperated from her, Yohko can call for the sword to come back by itself. MANO MADOKA She is Yohko's grandmother, the 107th generation devil hunter. Madoka's power came from the ring she handed down to Yohko. Her weapon is a sort of metal nunchaku. Madoka hides a devil hunter shrine underneath the Mano house. It is accessed by a computer which sends an elevator down to the shrine room. This place houses portraits of all the previous generations of devil hunters, has a library of books detailing the history of devil hunters, and stored a clock which holds a seal that kept a powerful demon named Tokima from gaining full power. MANO SAYOKO She is Yohko's mother. Unlike most mothers who would kill their daugthers if they even spoke of sex, Sayoko speaks quite freely of it with Yohko. She tells Yohko to do it, going so far as to giving Yohko condoms for safe keeping. Sayoko is always happy whenever Yohko brings a boy home, and she has a boyfriend of her own. Why isn't Sayoko the 108th generation devil hunter? According to Sayoko's mother, Madoka, before becoming a devil hunter, a girl must be pure of mind and body. Sayoko had sex with and then married Yohko's father at an early age before Madoka even had a chance to tell her about being a devil hunter. KANZAKI AZUSA Born in Komoridani, Kisshu, Azusa is the granddaughter of a friend of Madoka. A few years younger than Yohko, she comes to the Mano residence hoping to train with Yohko to become a devil hunter herself. Azusa doesn't seem to go to school as Yohko does, but rather just stays at home to help Madoka out with chores. Madoka once gave her a metal glove which when worn over her left hand, gives Azusa the power to transform into her devil hunter self. Her weapon is the Spear of Fuma which, like Yohko and her Soulsword, Azusa calls to her whenever it is needed. In the sixth episode, there appears a character who shares the same name and looks just like Azusa. This girl trains with Mano Ayako. Although not the same Azusa from the previous stories, this one is named "Azusa Number 2" by Madoka when her existance could not be explained to Yohko. MANO HARUKA Haruka was the first devil hunter. Long ago, a powerful demon named Tokima brought his beings to the human world. When it seemed that all was hopeless for mankind, Haruka came to successfully challenge Tokima. Haruka's power came from the same ring that Yohko now wears. Her weapon was also the Soulsword. Although long dead on Earth, Haruka survives in another time/space where she is still young and forever battling Tokima. OGAWA CHIKAKO She is Yohko's classmate and best friend. Chikako enjoys eating and making money. She proclaims herself as Yohko's business manager so that only she can decide when Yohko can practice her skills and for how much. Chikako even creates posters of Yohko to post around the neighborhood in order to make Yohko seem like a "ghostbuster" for hire. Chikako is smart and seems to know much of what happens around her, particularly in school. She stores as much information as possible about her schoolmates in her little Cosio DK-J16 pocket organizer. She also claims to have a great intelligence network for finding information on people. MANO AYAKO A relative of Yohko's. She has been taught all her life that it is her destiny to become the current generation devil hunter, not Yohko, so she is willing to do whatever it takes to get Yohko out of the way. Ayako is a very smart girl who goes to a school very close to the one that Yohko attends. She is the smartest in her class, achieving the highest score in mock college entrance exams. By nature, Ayako is an angry girl, and at her school she is also known as the school bully. Ayako looks exactly like Yohko. Ayako is trained by her grandmother who is Madoka's twin sister. Ayako's power comes from a bracelet which she wears around her right wrist. Instead of a red silk dress, Ayako's devil hunter outfit is a black silk dress. Her weapon is a curve-bladed handle energy Whip of Distraction which has a powerful grappling claw at its end. She also has the ability to possess the souls of men with as little as simple eye contact. MANO CHIAKI She is Ayako's grandmother. Chiaki is Madoka's twin sister. When the two were young, they got along fine. Then one day, the two fought over who would be the devil hunter and Madoka won. According to Madoka, the battle was so close that either of the two could have won. Not accepting such an outcome, Chiaki felt nothing but anger toward Madoka and later toward Yohko. ABUNAI OSAMU A long-time friend of Yohko and Chikako. He is in love with Yohko but doesn't know how to tell her. Yohko thinks he's too immature. Osamu only appears in the first episode. He becomes possessed by a demon, and he later lures Yohko to a hotel. As he is about to "deflower" Yohko, Madoka saves them both. PRINCIPAL GAKUENCHO In the first episode, Yohko's school principal turns out to be from the demon realm. The principal wants to perform the Ritual of Ressurection which would bring back the Black Queen, forever putting mankind in doom. She sets out from the very beginning to kill Yohko by using a monster to attack Yohko in a pool. She later seduces Osamu and possesses him in an attempt to get Yohko. The principal is also the one who seduces Hideki Kando into becoming the human male sacrifice needed for the resurrection of the Black Queen. REIKO She is a student who seems to be very popular and who Yohko thinks is very cool. Reiko turns out to be the Black Queen who needs the blood of a human male to complete her transformation into darkness. HIDEKI KANDO The boy Yohko has a crush on in the first episode. Yohko tries to watch Kando walk to school on a daily basis. He becomes the human male sacrifice for the Ritual of Ressurection. MASTER BIRYU Thousands of years ago in another world/dimension Master Biryu fell in love with a woman named Yanagi. A dragon king named Ryu-o forbade love between creatures of Mother Earth and the Great Sea, so when he found out about the relationship between Master Biryu and Princess Yanagi, he seperated them and sealed them away for eternity. Ryu-o put Master Biryu in a Dragon Sphere hidden in the body of a demon. PRINCESS YANAGI She is a nymph of the willows who fell in love with Master Biryu thousands of years ago in another world/dimension. This love was forbidden by a dragon king named Ryu-o. Ryu-o entombed Princess Yanagi within a Dragon Claw. LADY OBABA Master Biryu's guardian. She sends Yohko mental images of Master Biryu in Yohko's dreams making Yohko think that Biryu is in love with her. Lady Obaba then transports Yohko to her world/dimension in an effort to get Yohko to help free Master Biryu and Princess Yanagi. ASAKURA RYUICHI Another one of Yohko's crushes. He appears in the fifth episode. He is the son of the president of the Asakura Company. Ryuichi is smart and athletic, according to Chikako. TOKIMA The most powerful of all demons. Tokima has the ability to control time and space. He is the one who first led demons into the human world. Mano Haruka, the first devil hunter, defeated Tokima, but never killed him. His power has been kept in a seal in the form of a clock that the generations of devil hunters watch over. Tokima does manage to resurrect himself every few decades, but his powers are never at their full potential because the devil hunters have always been able to defeat him. He resurrects himself once more during Yohko's time. KUMA A demon who appears at the end of the fifth episode. According to Madoka, Kuma is another troublesome demon who first showed up during the time of the 6th generation devil hunter. TATENO Another of Yohko's quick crushes. He is a basketball player at Yohko's school. Tateno gets seduced by Ayako early in the sixth episode. SANO YUSUKE One of Yohko's teachers from the sixth episode who Yohko instantly develops a crush on after she realizes that she has no chance with Tateno. Unfortunately for Yohko, he is also seduced by Ayako and later is sacrificed to bring a demon back into being. DEMON FROM SIXTH EPISODE This demon has no name. Ayako accidentally resurrects the demon while training early in the sixth episode and later as she fights Yohko. Like many of the more powerful demons before him, he also wants to bring forth the end of the world. This demon has the ability to "freeze" an opponent, instantly sapping the opponent's strength.
